Moroccan Waste to Product
The Moroccan Waste to Product (MOWATOP) project began in May 2022, initiated by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of their Small Business Innovation Research programme from the RVO. The project aims to identify new pathways for the ever-increasing plastic waste in Morocco. Relieving pressure on landfills, reducing the amount of plastic waste leaking into the environment and preventing related GHGs emissions. Our proposal is to develop products that can be used in public spaces, made entirely from locally recycled plastics. We hope to convert plastic materials such as HDPE, PE and PP into street benches, fencing, poles, beams, sheds, litter bins, latrines, and any other “public space products” depending on the local needs. In the first phase, the Searious Business team will conduct a feasibility study to develop a solid business case for a subsequent piloting phase. Phase 1 will focus on plastic qualification, market analysis, stakeholder identification and prototype design. If the results of the feasibility study are positive, the manufacture of products by local entrepreneurs will begin in phase 2 in Q4 2022.
