Buddie Pack

Reusable Packaging Systems

BUSINESS-DRIVEN SYSTEMIC SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE PLASTIC PACKAGING REUSE SCHEMES IN MASS MARKET APPLICATIONS

OBJECTIVES

Buddie Pack is a circular economy initiative that combines social, technological, and economic elements to deploy reusable plastic packaging (RPP) on a large scale. Including:

  • Behavioural Innovation: Promote consumer acceptance of RPP by studying the psychology of reuse.

  • Technological Synergies: Develop packaging that meets RPP requirements using innovative designs and recyclable materials.

  • Cleaning Solutions: Ensure consumer safety with innovative cleaning methods for RPP, maintaining functionality for up to 300 cycles.

  • Economic Models: Aims for sustainability through profitable solutions for all stakeholders, including social and solidarity economic models.

  • Demonstration and Supervision: Six mass-market business cases overseen by RPP manufacturers, users, logisticians, and experts in cleaning and recycling.

  • Cleaning Pilot Line: Establish a dedicated line for RPP cleaning to allow scale economies.

  • Policy and Pre-standardisation: Prepare the market for RPP mass deployment with policy recommendations and standardised designs and cleaning protocols.

  • Preventive Measures: Implement strategies to prevent microplastics release during RPP use.

As Work Package 4 leaders, Searious Business is conducting thorough cost-benefit analyses to develop reusable models that are financially viable for all stakeholders. With all the talk around reuse legislation, it is so important that we figure out the economics to make reuse work, for planet and profit.
